In the past few years, there has been an increase in the number of African Americans getting mistreated and, in severe instances, getting killed by the police. Due to this level of brutality, organizations that aim to address these issues have been formed. One such organization is the Black Lives Matter organization. To address the social injustice issues affecting the black people and other minority groups, the co-founder of the Black Lives Matter movement Patrisse Cullors has raised the stakes high by requesting to meet President Joe Biden. According to Patrisse, it is vital for her to meet President Joe Biden and vice president Kamala Harris because it is high time black people got something for their votes. The 2020 elections saw an increase in the number of black people who came out to vote. For instance, for the first time in a long time, Georgia turned blue mainly due to the monumental number of black voters who were present in Atlanta and its suburbs. This was a clear indication that more African Americans were beginning to acknowledge that they had a voice that resonated well across the country. As such, the founders of the Black Lives Matter movement believe it is high time that they have a cordial talk with the president as a way of making sure that Joe Biden has a plan to support black lives.

In a letter sent to the president on the 7th of November 2020, Cullors starts by congratulating the president-elect and vice-president-elect for their victory against a person who was seen as being the cause of increased cases of racial injustice. In the same letter, Cullors goes ahead and states that if it weren’t for the resounding support of black people, the minority would be “saddled with a different electoral outcome.” The emotional, physical and monetary support invested towards the election played an integral role in ensuring that the Trump administration came to an end and the Biden administration took charge. The letter goes ahead to state that its main agenda is to head and prioritize the lives of the minority. As such, the BLM organizers hope to be appreciated, and their issues addressed because they have been living in a crisis in a country that they built through subjugation.

In the letter, the Black Lives Matter co-founder not only does she raise issues on the mistreatment of black people but also gives solutions to the underlying issues. For instance, in the letter, she states that the best way to ensure that past missteps are addressed is by “working towards the creation of a just future for black people.” This, according to BLM co-founder, can only be achieved if the president and his administration decide to gather information and direction from black grassroots organizers who have been at the forefront in ensuring that the lives of black people are respected. As a parting shot, the co-founder of the Black Lives Matter movement hopes that the president will be able based on his convenience as she looks forward to working with the president to oversee Black Liberation. Additionally, Cullors hopes to work together with the president and his vice-president to improve the living conditions of brown and black people. At the time of writing, President-elect Joe Biden had not responded publicly to the letter.
