Frito-Lay has issued an emergency recall on bags of Wavy Lay’s Original Potato Chips because they may have accidentally included undeclared ingredients that can cause allergic reactions in people. The company claims to have discovered walnuts, sesame seeds, and scallions in bags labeled as containing only potato chips. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration advises that anyone who is sensitive to walnuts, sesame seeds, or scallions should avoid consuming these products and bring them back to any place of purchase for a full refund of all products purchased. Anyone else who thinks they may be sensitive to any ingredient in these chips is advised to seek medical care immediately if they feel their health is at risk after consuming them.
If you bought one of these packages, don’t eat it. Take it back to where you bought it and get a refund. Don’t try to eat it at home, and don’t resell it or give it away. Allergic reactions are extremely serious. Frito-Lay doesn’t know exactly what ingredient caused an allergic reaction for anyone who ate these chips but they want to make sure nobody else has a problem if they did. If you ate them, watch yourself for symptoms over the next few days: swelling of your tongue or throat, difficulty breathing, hives, or any other signs of an allergic reaction like rashes, abdominal pain, and nausea. If you’ve eaten any of these products, call your doctor or 911 right away. The undeclared ingredients can cause severe allergic reactions in people who have not been previously diagnosed with an allergy to soy or peanuts. While no immediate adverse effects have been reported by consumers, eating a product containing undeclared ingredients could cause an allergic reaction. If you’ve eaten these chips and are experiencing symptoms of an allergic reaction (swelling, rash, hives), contact your local poison control center immediately or go to your nearest emergency room. If you’re feeling fine but curious about whether or not you’ve consumed one of these snacks, call 1-800-835-2891 for more information.
