In Hockley, Texas there was a public daycare that posted a sign that made some parents feel some type of way. The message that it stated was basically reminding the parents that the children have been in their care all day. And, that it was their time to spend with their children. This story has opened parents eyes and also made a few upset. However, the flip side to it is that it is the truth. We see it every day to where kids are being neglected. We also see children being loved and cared for. How can you argue with someone’s opinion? As parents, as long as you know that you are doing your best nobody should try to take that away from you.

Juliana Farris Mazurkiewicz noticed the sign on the door and she said it didn’t offend her in any way. She posted it on her social media and received a lot of notifications from people commenting on her post. She felt the post was telling parents to fix their own behavior when it comes to their children. Her post went viral and landed in the hands of a CNN anchor where she was interviewed. The debate over the internet about this issue was over the words “You are picking up your children. Get off of the phone”. “Your child is very happy to see you. Are you happy to even see your children?” The daycare said that they have witnessed the children trying to show them their work that they completed but the parent was on their phone instead.

Mazurkiewicz was glad that the daycare posted the message. When she saw the message she was also holding the phone in her hand. She made a comment about the staff members message where she trusted the daycare enough to agree with their harsh words. Even though it may have offended some parents, Julia feel it was necessary for the reminder. However, there was a debate on social media where some angry commenters wrote, “This is ridiculous! Who is anyone to tell a parent when to use their phone. They may be working or have an emergency”. Some felt it was none of their business and shouldn’t speak on it.

If someone at the daycare saw this, it should have been their duty to type a letter to parents and give it to them individually. Another way this could have been resolved is pulling that parent(s) to the side and personally inform them about the incident. It is hard work being a parent and nothing comes easy with the responsibilities.

There are parents that have multiple children and it’s hard to juggle all personalities at once. Everybody can’t get the same attention. However, the attention should be equally shared. There should be no parents showing any favoritism. Just because you see a parent on their phone doesn’t mean that you are neglecting your children. Right is right, and wrong is wrong. In the wonderful world of living the happy, married with children life, there is always going to be something said about parenting. There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking the time to ensure the next generation of indigo children are seeing that their parents miss them. However, the twisted side to it is that in the world we also live in, there are other influences that can be distracting.
